2008 Event Plan

Our team event plan for 2008 has been developed to fit within this year's themes which are about vital, new, and challenging team experiences. The year has been divided into two seasons with build-up activities to prepare for a final focus event.

Season One: Jan 12 – May 31

Focus event: Hawaii Ironman 70.3 in Honu, May 31

February 6: Training plan posted.

This half-Ironman triathlon is the year's first focus event, a perfect way to set athletic goals for Jan through May with an amazing venue to sweeten the deal. This race is popular, expertly produced, and is a qualifier for Hawaii Ironman so is very competitive. But in such a fantastic place, you can forget the competition, race your own pace and simply enjoy being there. To register, go to the race website.

The race site is the beautiful Hapuna Beach and the Mauna Lani Resort. Many team members are making hotel reservations at the nearby Waikoloa Fairway Villas in Waikoloa, about 15  miles from the Kona airport. We recommend arriving Thu May 29 so you have a day to acclimate before Saturday's race.

Bike shipping to Honu: Linda Bless with Bikeworks can set you up (David Greenwood amongst others recommends them) at 808 326 2453 or email bikereservations@hpbikeworks.com.

You are responsible for your own race entry and travel arrangements. So far, almost 35 team members have signed up and you can see the list here. If you go, be sure to add your name!

Build-up events
  • Fearsome Foursome training: Includes the Ultimate Run, Feb Swim, Epic Ride, Fearsome Tri
  • Medocino Multisport Camp, Apr 4-6: Three-day training camp focusing on bike and run
  • Physiologic Testing, Feb 10 and Apr 27: Endurance Performance Training Centers in SF hosts a testing day just for Team Sheeper. This is a unique opportunity for team members to receive high quality testing and consultation as part of a fun and educational group event. Get pre-season data on your current fitness level and it will use the info to optimize the 15 weeks of training before Hawaii. The session includes individual lactate testing on the bike and group Q & A, plus, you can opt to try a variety of other services. Find out more about Endurance PTC.
  • Wildflower Half-Ironman prep event, May 3: This event is a classic on the California racing calendar and is the perfect challenge to prep for Hawaii. It's hot, hilly, long, and all-round killer fun. The camping is a highlight, as is the gorgeous countryside. Find out more and register here.

Season Two: Jun 1 - Oct 18

Focus event: USAT Club National Championships in Las Vegas, Oct 18

The USAT Club Nat's are a great way to finish your season. You have ultimate flexibility in your planning because the day includes short, Olympic, and half-Ironman distance races, and all three count toward the club championship. Here's our chance to show off our team at all levels! And a bonus is that the venue is outside Las Vegas, so travel is easy.

The day includes the Pumpkinman Triathlon which hosts the short and Olympic races. The Halfmax half is also the 2008 long course national championships with qualification required to enter (use your Hawaii race to beat your age group qualifying time!). Find out more here.
