Lap King Results

Well, it is now going to have to be called the Lap Queen, since Cara Barr decimated a talented and deep field of wanna-be's last night.

The Lap King/Queen consisted of 10 x 50's of swimming.  The 50's had to all be done under 30 minutes and there was a point score given to each 50. The faster one swam the more points one accumulated.  Well, Cara averaged 32.8 seconds for each 50 earning a perfect score of 100 points.  The next sport of the evening was driving.  The driving consisted of 5 laps around the Malibu Gran Prix race track.  The faster one drove the more points one accumulated, and Cara earned a possible 92 out of 100 points.  Her driving prowess left many a wishful competitors walking away from the track with their heads bowed in shame.

The Queens competitors that fell short were:

1.  Cara Barr  192
2.  Keith Terada 180
3.  Jeff Solomon 175
4.  Doug Fujii 157  (The guy can drive)
5.  Lennard Hachman 156
6.  Cindy Welton 143
7.  Dave Mandelkern 54
8.  Pierre Pujol 52  (still needs to swim)
9.  Chris Balz 20  (still needs to swim)
10. Michele Santilhano 20 (still needs to swim)

Grinder #4 - Hamilton and Series Results

The last Grinder was definitely the most challenging of the four rides.  Many anticipated Hamilton to be a nice gradual ascent.  Well, we changed all that by approaching the mountain from the southwest using nasty, nasty roads like the "Metcalf Mauler" and the "Quimby Quiverer."  Mother nature decided to add more challenge as she dumped rain the entire ride and the gale force winds near the summit brought on the white knuckles of all the descenders.

The strong and the brave Hamilton riders were:
1. Kevin Burns
2. Michele Santilhano
3. Cara Barr
4. Amy McGaughey
5. Cindy Welton
6. Sally Phillips
7. Derrick Hansen
8. Hani Juha
9. Brandon Nugent
10. Bob Carlin
11. Mike Osmond (sag)

Under much better conditions
12. Pierre Pujol
13. Mike Robles
14. David Greenwood
15. Tanja Sattler
16. Kim Freitas
17. Kirsten Kempe

The Grinder Series turned out to be a very well accepted new event this year with a total of  89 riders taking part over the four rides.  Plan for the 2009 edition which will have four new challenging climbs/grinders.

The following riders completed at least 3 of the 4 Grinders this year which earns them a team award.
1. Kevin Burns
2. Bob Carlin
3. Derrick Hansen
4. Hani Juha
5. Kirsten Kempe
6. Amy McGaughey
7. Chas Pavlovic
8. Sally Phillips
9. Pierre Pujol
10. Michele Santilhano
11. Tanja Sattler
12. Mike Osmond

King Pin and Donut King

King Pin -Thursday December 11, at 6 PM.

The King pin will consist of 10 x 400's around the MA track and 10 frames of bowling at Redwood City Bowl immediately following.  It's not too late to freshen up your bowling game before the event.  2008 defending champion is Paul Gorman.  He can do an Ironman under 10:15, but can he bowl over 120?

Donut King - Saturday December 13, 8:30 AM.

The Donut King is a challenging little endeavor that has left more than a few top athletes in a world of discomfort many hours after the end of the competition.  The event is comprised of a 2.5 hour bike ride and then a donut eating contest.

Past champions include:
1. Joel Phillips
2. Sally Phillips
3. Derrick Hansen
4. Wallace Holland
5. Peter Borak

Who has the gut to be the 2008 Champion?

Christmas Relays

The Christmas Relays has fast become a team tradition.  This is a short, fast and fun event that involves four people each running 4.5 mile sections in a relay format around Lake Merced.  There are more than a dozen different divisions and it is fun regardless of the type of running condition one brings to the event.   The chocolate chip and banana- walnut pancakes are actually the highlight of the morning.  Check in with Mike Osmond who is assisting in compiling the teams.
