Fearsome Foursome Results and Party

The 2010 Fearsome served its purpose, which was to get team members fit for the season.  This year we gave the Ultimate Run a rest and traded it in for 20 days of running and/or strength training.  February, as always was a grueling month of continual swimming while the Epic Ride and the Fearsome Tri delivered in normal fashion. Although we had nearly 80 athletes complete at least one event, we only had 14 who completed all four.

The successful Fearsome Foursome team members are:

1. Dario Benavides
2. Meredith Gimble
3. Edie Heideman
4. Ian Hersey
5. Kirsten Kempe
6. Martin Michael
7. Chas Pavlovic
8. Tanja Sattler
9. Chris Spetzler
11. Keith Terada
12. Mirella Terada
13. Mimi Winsberg
14.  Tim Sheeper

We will celebrate their accomplishments at a Fearsome Foursome Awards Party on Saturday May 29 after the morning workout extravaganza.  Keith and Mirella Terada will be hosting the potluck party at their place house.  An evite will be sent with more details of times and directions.

RAAM

Race  Across AMerica.  As many of you know the famous bicycle race across the states begins June 12.  This year the 3,200 mile race will include a relay team comprised of Team Sheeper athletes, who will be shooting for the long standing 50+ team record of just over 6 days.  The team members are:
Eduardo Llach
Bill Kirsch
Dave Quincy
Tim Sheeper

There is also a solo entrant, Michele Santilhano, who will be attempting to complete the course this year after experiencing challenges that forced her abort the race in 2009.  (She did complete the crossing on her on without support throughout the remainder of the year).

Many team members will also serve as crew members on this arduous cross country sleep-deprived journey.  Some of the crew members are:
Sig Paulazzo
David Greenwood
Doug Fujii
Peter Davies
Steve Young

As with many endurance events, we are using our efforts to raise awareness and financial support for worthy causes.  Our alliance is with our foundation Building Futures Now which is thriving in its third year of operation with close to 30 kids on their way to education success and independence.

We have set a modest financial goal and mainly hope to continue to build the connection between our team and the foundation.  You may find more information about this project on the Team Sheeper website at:

Team Tibco

The following information is from Michael Leon a long time Team Sheeper and Menlo Masters athlete who is part of the professional support staff for Team Tibco.

Follow Local Pro Cycling Team During Epic Race - And Win Prizes

You know about Lance and the Tour de France. But, you probably never heard of the Tour de L'Aude.  It's one of the world's most difficult multi-day pro races in France.  Just like the Tour de France, this race attracts the world's best pro teams -- womens' pro teams.

One women's team competing for the first time in this year's Tour de L'Aude is a local pro team called Team Tibco.  They are the top American womens team with more race wins than any other US team.

Team Tibco is awarding free gifts to their fans throughout the race.  To enter to win, sign up to receive Tibco's e-mail reports from France.  You will receive daily reports about the race, stories from the athletes, and info about the region, the crowds, and culture.

Go here to sign-up for Tour de L'Aude reports and enter the contest for prizes:

Triathlon Clinics

Hani Juha and Bruce Smith are teaming up this summer to offer beginner level triathlon clinics and open water swim clinics.  USA Productions is providing the foundational support by bringing out bike racks, swim buoys, course markings and securing sites for the clinics like Uvas Reservoir.  If these clinic offerings do not suit your needs, they may be helpful to a budding triathlete you may know so pass on the information.

Tour of California

Our regular Tuesday morning training group will be altering the regular schedule tomorrow so we can position ourselves to watch the riders in the Tour of California.

We will leave Burgess Pool at the regular time of 9:00am (9:15am) and then head up Old La Honda to Skyline to Kings Mountain-down Tunitas to position ourselves for good viewing, watch the race go by and then return down Kings Mountain back to the pool.

Play hooky and come enjoy a morning ride with the team.

Ironman Germany-Roth

Team Sheeper is taking a poll to determine the interest level of forming a formidable team to tackle the German Ironman in Roth-July 2011.  If you would like to take part in what is arguably the biggest triathlon event outside of the Hawaiian Ironman let us know.  This race fills very quickly every year and we would have to make arrangements with the race organizers very soon to secure our team spots this July 2010 for next years event.

Action Item: Email Mike Osmond if you plan to be in Germany in 2011.

Level One Triathlon

Just to keep everyone in the loop, Hani Juha with assistance from Lorraine Sneed and Tanja Sattler have led a steady and burgeoning group of novice cyclists around our famous roads here in the valley and mountains.  We are proud of the fact that many individuals are learning the basics of cycling as well as increasing their strength and endurance under the tutelage of Hani.

Jake Havenar continues to mold athletes into hard formed bodies every Thursday evening during his strength sessions and on Tuesday nights during the road, track and trail runs.

Keep telling your friends about our Level One program and stay tuned for Hani's next descending clinic where everyone from a pro to a rank novice will pick up golden nuggets of information.

Spec Ops Corner

Not to neglect the dirty athletes of the Spec Ops persuasion.  The big event of the year is slated to be the Sierra 50 or 100 mile mountain bike race through the Sierras.  This has always been our back-up plan for the over-hyped, over-promoted, over-elevated race in Colorado, that none of the 15 or so team members made it in.
http://www.globalbiorhythmevents.com/2009-tahoe-sierra-50100/

There are a few other events looming in the underground and back corners for this group, but we just canâ?Tt tell you all the details at once or up front. We have to let the information seep out slowly in bits and pieces.  Action Items: Be forever fit.  Be ready at a moments notice.  Be able to relish getting dirty, dusty and cranky.  Be registered for this September event.
