Weekend Trainings

I was very impressed this past Saturday by the level of commitment and dedication by all those who showed up for the combo at Pillar Point.

We do not always realize this, but that is a world class training site. The views and terrain are optimum for cycling and running.  The weather even cooperates sometimes.

Neither foul weather nor the long drive could hold back more than 30 athletes from completing a very challenging bike-run workout.

Feats such as this past Saturday could not have been done without the support and companionship of team members, especially how we have been stacking workout after workout, weekend after weekend.

Stick with it.  It all pays off in the long run.  Just be certain that it is not an ultimate effort to get to the trainings. If it is, then take that day off or do it lighter on your own or at the back.  You have to want to be at the trainings.  It should take just a bit of personal pushing every once in a while.

Wine Country Tour

We will be hosting the 2nd Annual Wine Country Tour on Memorial Day Weekend, May 27-29, 2006.

The three day tour is based out of the Sebastopol Inn in Sebastopol California.  It is about a 1 hour and 45 minute drive from Menlo Park with no traffic.

Last years tour was a huge success. The weather, terrain and routes were spectacular. This year we booked the entire Inn so we do not have to send people/riders to different hotels/motels like last year.

The room release date has come and gone.  I am under pressure to release the rooms since it is a holiday weekend.  If you plan on going to the tour, please either register on line or send me a confirmation that you are going if you are not ready at the moment to sign up.  I want to make sure I do not release the rooms we need.  I am aware that our team likes to do things at the last moment, but that method will not work in this case.

Thanks for your attention to this.  More information on the tour can be found at our camps and tours section.

Wildflower

Wildflower is coming up in 2.5 weeks.  We have traditionally had 2 members travel down on Monday or Tuesday to pick out a team site and secure it with tents.

Those 2 people (Martin and Peter) have decided to take some time off.

We are looking for someone who is able to take over that position of securing our traditional camping area which is 2.5 miles from the transition area.  Please let me know if there is any interest.

Wednesday Night Ride

The Wednesday night rides are back on the schedule at 6 PM.  The rides alternate each week with a time trial workout or a group ride.

The time trials are going to be either individual or combined this year.  The group rides will have different start times with the fastest riders of the workout leaving minutes behind the various groups and chasing.  The group ride is always over the same course and is about 25 miles.

Come out and get a solid bike workout in a very short span of time.

Swim Meet

Menlo Masters is hosting its first ever swim meet this Saturday.  It is a long course meet at Sacred Heart.

The 400 Meter Freestyle event is on the Tri Team Schedule.  The women 400 starts at 8 AM with the men’s 400 getting underway about 9:30 AM.

A team run is scheduled to leave from Sacred Heart at the conclusion of both 400’s.  The run is out to the “Dish” on the Stanford Campus.

Ironman athletes are going for 2.5 hours and Olympic athletes are trotting out there and going a hard 4 mile loop around the dish and trotting back.

I encourage all triathletes to take advantage of the privilege of having a meet in your own backyard hosted by your own team.  A 400 Free is a cleansing endeavor. Register at menlo.mastersswim.com
