Triathlete of the Year Party

Congratulations to Martin Michael and Michelle Santilhano who were awarded Triathlete of the Year honors this past Saturday night.

Both athletes were extremely deserving of the awards.  Martin had a fantastic and phenomenal year of consistent training and competing which is just really and truly his brand of a comfortable sporting multisport lifestyle.  He has brought compassion, etiquette and ethics to a higher level on the team.

Michelle has sped through 2007 on a whirlwind tour of endurance events that would have crippled most athletes attempting to emulate.  She has completed numerous open water marathon swims and channel crossing (St. George, Catalina, Maui, and Tahoe) she ran The Western States 100 mile run and two other 50 mile run races.  She completed Vineman Ironman, a double century, 2 centuries, Ultraman and California International Marathon a week after Ultraman.  I have probably left off a few.  Remember this is all in the span of 12 months, not a career.

The Fearsome Foursome triathletes were also recognized and awarded for their dedication and persistence.

Donut King

Peter Borak beat down all challengers and pretenders in the much anticipated 2007 Donut King event.

His winning line up was 6 donuts, 1 maple bar and an apple fritter in the span of 30 minutes.  It was a fair and well controlled victory, that will put Peter into the Team Sheeper record books forever.

The question that still lingers in everyone's mind is:  "What would have happened if Sally was there?"

King Series

The Donut King was only the first of 3 King event.  The next two events are happening this week, RAIN or SHINE.

If an athlete competes and completes 2 of the 3 events they will be the proud owner of a high tech sport top with the King Series logo on it.

The schedule is as follows:

Lap King---Tuesday 6pm Burgess Pool.  Swimming and driving.  If it rains the driving will be substituted with baseball at the batting cages.

King Pin---Wednesday 6pm Burgess Pool.  Running and bowling.  If it rains, we still forge on.  The running will be 400's at MA track and then bowling a game at Mel's bowl.

Michele Santilhano Thank You

The following is a message unedited straight from Michele to team members:

2007 has been my most outrageous and wild year of adventure and exercise thanks to an incredibly dynamic group of individuals.  I am indeed grateful and appreciative to all on the team who have patiently assisted me in training sessions, listened & shared their wisdom & experience during fun events, proven incredible results & inspiring friendship. Thank you to all those who signed the poster card on my return from Ultraman. I was overwhelmed with emotion when I received it.  I wish each one of you a very blessed holiday season and a BRRRILLIANT 2008!!!! I look forward to more high level fun.

Michele

Elad Survey

The following is a message from Elad Benjamin: I'm exploring an idea that has to do with creating a good training log for athletes. I've never found one that I really enjoyed using, and I was wondering whether it's just me or other folks as well. I wrote a short survey to ask people what they think and what they use to log their training (if they do so at all). Would you be willing to include the link to the survey in your next email to the team?  It really only takes a few minutes.

Hawaii Ironman 70.3-Honu Accommodations

The race site of the Hawaii Ironman 70.3 is the beautiful Hapuna Beach.  Hapuna Beach is only 10 minutes drive from a town/development called Waikoloa.

Waikoloa is 15 miles from the Kona airport and it is the place where we are recommending athletes book accommodations.

I stayed in a beautiful condo in Waikoloa at the Waikoloa Fairway Villas while on the island for Ultraman and I was duly impressed by the quality and the value.  I have booked there again for the 70.3 and I suggest that if you are going that you contact Abbey Vacation Rentals and reserve your space now.

Abbey Vacation Rentals has 6 x 2 bedroom plus loft units available  at Waikoloa Fairway Villas. These can sleep 6.

They have 2 x 3 bedroom, 2 story units available. These can sleep 7  (one on a roll away).

They also have other condos available at Vista Waikoloa which can  accommodate up to 5 people.

It is simple and painless:

Wildflower

Yes, I know it is only December and Wildflower does not happen until May, but this race does have a tendency to sell out and it is on our team training schedule in preparation for Kona.  I am promoting either the Olympic or the Half-Ironman.  Both will prepare you in different but satisfactory ways for the race in Hawaii.  Go online sometime soon and throw your name in the ring.
